Unpacking Histories: Reflecting on Relations on Indigenous People and the Jesuits

Series Kick-off September 30 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

This coming academic year, the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the U.S. will host a learning series on the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the Jesuits in North America. Over four sessions, Unpacking Histories: Reflecting on the relations of Indigenous Peoples and Jesuits in what we currently call the U.S. and Canada will feature Indigenous and Jesuit voices as we reflect on the history between Jesuits and Indigenous Peoples.  There is no single version of this history that is full of brokenness and beauty, so we will look at it from many angles. Session topics will include: an introduction to Jesuit ministries to Indigenous peoples, history of Jesuit-run Indigenous boarding schools, Indigenous spirituality, and opportunities for legislative advocacy.  The series will begin with a half-day intensive session on September 30 from 9am to 2pm ET.  Register at: https://bit.ly/UnpackingHistories

We feel called by the Gospel and guided by Catholic Social Teaching to welcome the stranger by seeing in the immigrant the face of Christ. America is a country built by immigrants, most of us need to look back only one or two generations to discover our own immigrant ancestors.
