The Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Blood transports oxygen, it returns carbon dioxide as well as cleansing and nurturing the body with food and hormones. Some faint at the sight of it. We think of all the blood spilled in the world today and pray for peace. Christ’s blood was necessary. But our brothers and sisters gunned down on the streets is not. One person showed me how he was shot twice with stray bullets in his life on the streets of Baltimore because the wrong people had guns in their hands. They would not have harmed him if they didn’t.

July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Until the mid 20thcentury, the first Sunday in July was dedicated to the Precious Blood. Eventually, it became July 1. Today, the liturgical calendar merged it with Corpus Christi Sunday.
