Pope Francis published his Lenten message this year 2024. He insists on our need to counter a “globalization of indifference.” He writes our Lenten journey will be concrete if… we realize that, even today, we remain under the rule of Pharoah, who is the ruler of whatever makes us weary and indifferent. It is increasingly dividing us and robbing us of our future. At the same time, Pope Francis reminded us that it is God who initiates our freedom. Too often, he said, we wish to remain inexplicable desirous to sit in our slavery, this desire to cling to idols that paralyze us, as Israel was paralyzed in the desert.
