Prayer Meeting: Vocations
November 5, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Although the Adoration Hour on November 5 was originally initiated to pray publicly for vocations to religious life, especially the Society of Jesus, your participation can be for your private needs. Catholics throughout the centuries often gazed at the Sacrament to empty their hearts and troubles before Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. Personally, I experienced peace whenever I signed up occasionally for Eucharistic Adoration. I remember discerning my life choices using adoration. In 1988 when I was invited to apply to enter the Society. I was not at peace and knelt prayerfully before the Blessed Sacrament and decided there to withdraw my application. Later, as a young man, I occasionally dropped into an exposition chapel to offer my busy days to the Lord and to petition God for assistance in difficulties. After entering the Society, I witnessed a most amazing exposition while studying Spanish in Madrid in 1999. Several Jesuits and I traveled to Toledo to participate in the Eucharistic procession with a 6-foot monstrance that traveled throughout the city on Corpus Christi Sunday. The most poignant moments of exposition and adoration have been after learning a loved one died. Jesus consoles me and invites me into sacred silence to be loved in my sorrow.
Whatever your reason for participating, whether public or private reasons, I invite you to sign up for one (or more) fifteen-minute interval on Saturday, November 5 after the 6pm Mass. The evening ends at 7pm with Benediction when the congregation sings hymns, the priest incenses the altar, and blesses the congregation with the sacrament in our beautiful parish monstrance. For those who cannot travel into the City, livestreaming is available to be united in prayer for public petition of vocations and for one’s own petitions. If you are able to attend in person, please sign up here. God bless you for your generosity.
